Hello! It’s been a while since I’ve popped over here and I figured I would give an update on the pregnancy, what I’m loving, etc. This is such a new time of life for me and Kyle, and we are learning week by week what it looks like to prepare for a new baby. So here we go, some quick updates on what’s been happening for us!
Pregnancy So Far…
Some know that up until 13-14 weeks, I had terrible all day sickness/nausea/whatever you want to call it. It was bad. My diet dwindled down to carbs because I had food aversions to all of the normal groceries we typically bought and cooked. I even had an aversion to coffee, which is sooo unlike me. Safe to say Kyle got used to me cooking very bland dinners that first trimester! However, after that time period, I am so fortunate to say that I’ve had very few pregnancy annoyances. It has been an incredibly smooth ride and I know not to take such a blessing for granted. We’ll see what happens when I hit the third trimester in a few weeks, but for now I am thankful for a pregnancy journey full of peace and plenty of joy.
We have been on the ball lately – picking out a pediatrician, scheduling a newborn photo session, looking into getting a new car (we are a one car family right now), making our registry, and pre-registering with the hospital/setting up a hospital tour. I’m such a planner that I’ve loved getting these details lined up, especially since it means her arrival is getting closer.
Right now, I am at 25+4 days pregnant. (fun fact: she is about 1.5 pounds and roughly the size of a head of cauliflower!) Almost every night, Kyle and I both talk about how deeply we long for July, while also making sure to savor the time we have together. As we slowly get stocked on baby items, it feels surreal to hold up a onesie and know that her sweet lil body will be in it in a few months. We are both ready for this new step, but also praying for wisdom and guidance as we learn what it means to raise a daughter.
What I’m Loving….
So there are a few pregnancy items that I really can’t live without. Most are pretty basic, but totally necessary for me over these past 6~ months.
Or cuties. Whatever you call them. Either way, I will go through a bag of those (by myself) in 5 days. I’ve been eating a lot more citrus since being pregnant and those tiny oranges are definitely my go to. I’m thankful that my ‘cravings’ have leaned more towards fruit and not towards processed food, so I don’t have to restrict myself as much. I’ve also been devouring grapefruit, pineapple, and orange juice on occasion 🙂
- Body Pillow
Once we announced our pregnancy, I had a lot of other moms recommend the pregnancy pillow to me. We looked into getting one, but with our small apartment and lack of storage, I knew that finding a place for it post-pregnancy would be tough. So instead, I’ve been using a long body pillow that goes on our bed anyways – eliminating the storage situation. And let me say, it has been a game-changer! Once my belly started popping out I needed something to rest it on in bed at night, and this has been the perfect in-between solution (and we also saved $60!)
- Reusable Water Bottle
This is basic, and most people already have water bottles laying around their homes, but finding a water bottle you can carry with you everywhere and fit in your cup holders is a must do for anyone pregnant. I am thirsty 24/7, and especially with the extra fluid intake you need while pregnant, it was super important that I use a bottle that makes me want to drink more, and also is easy to transport. Since my Nalgene wouldn’t fit in my car cup holders I started using a skinny one I found at Target, that also doesn’t leak, so I can just throw it in my purse anywhere I go.
- Podcasts & YouTube
My favorite way to research anything pregnancy/baby related has been by listening to podcasts and watching YouTube videos. I love the podcasts because I’m able to listen while also doing dishes/laundry/running errands/etc. It is more realistic for my busy days compared to sitting down with a thick book at the moment. YouTube has also been a great tool for me. I’ve loved watching other people’s birth stories and learning from their experiences. It has given me a more realistic picture of pregnancy/birth/postpartum compared to the scenes we see in movies.
Some of my favorite pregnancy/motherhood related podcasts are 40 Weeks Pregnancy Podcast, Coffee + Crumbs (the best!!!), Pregnancy Podcast, and Risen Motherhood. As for YouTube, I just watch whatever pops up after my search (be careful on YouTube, the videos can get very extreme/detailed if you’re not careful with how you search!)
- Pregnancy Apps
My favorite pregnancy app to use is ‘The Bump’. You put in your pregnancy information and each week it gives you an update about your baby, what’s going on in your body, and a visual for how big the baby is inside of you. There are about ten million pregnancy apps out there, but this one I found to be the best by far. It makes us really excited for Sundays, when our baby turns one week older so that we can read the weekly facts!
I can’t believe we only have 15(ish) weeks until we meet our daughter! We are in awe of the life that is being entrusted to us and pray for her every day. We would love your continued prayers for her health, her life, and that she would have a fiery passion for Jesus. We know that Jesus chose her to do great things, and we cannot wait to see how she blesses our life even more than she already has.
